What to buy for $30 from Clinique?  My suggestions: For $45 you can get Turnaround Concentrate : Instantly reveals a healthy radiance. Gently replaces dull, worn-out surface cells with livelier, more luminous ones. Skin breathes. Accepts moisture better. Then, it optimizes up-and-coming cells to help the best and brightest emerge. So day after day, skin seems to glow from within. Becomes smoother over time.

Yes, it is more than $30 but I think it is a great product- combines well with other treatments and brightens my complexion.

I have some acne scarring from medication(never had a zit til my 30's grrrr) and I am definitely seeing a difference and it is helping in fighting off the years.  I do rotate it with Clinique's 'Even Better' Clinical Dark Spot remover which I find is sometimes not compatible with my current moisturizer(another thing I rotate and I often use a different brand).    The 'Even Better' is a Nordstrom beauty winner for 2012 and has corresponding prroducts such as an eye circle moisturizer and a spray SPF.  While it has slightly fewer stars and is more expensive, 'Even Better' has roughly nine times the number of reviews.  

'Turnaround' has corresponding products(like a facial, as well, and you can, of course, mix and match.  I do love the 'Moisture Surge' line and it looks lke I'm not the only one because Clinque now has a 'Moisture Surge' CC with SPF in it so it can be used in the daytime without an additional SPF.  

Alot depends on your skin- I tend to have combination skin and my T-zone tends to be much less dry than my cheeks.  I also adore Clinique's "Fresh Bloom" allover color which I use sometimes and love but it is only $29.50 meaning you have to buy something else.  The "Fresh Bloom" is sort of a guilty pleasure for me because I like it because it's pretty but there are lots of other blusher/bronzer type products out there that are great and likely cheaper.  I like the pretty flowers, okay? But then you'd have an excuse to buy a 'Chubby Stick' lip balm. :) 

But enough about Clinique!  Bvlgari is continuing to run their GWP: Get a cute little Omnia mini((in a velvet pouch) that is bigger (0.5 oz) than a sampler but still purse-sized and not a rollerball))with a full-sized purchase of $80 or more from their women's fragrance line.  I pretty much haven't met a Bvlgari that I didn't like.  Just enter the code for which Omnia you prefer: Amethyst, Omniacoral or Crystal.

Nordstrom also has some nice GWP's for men but my husband isn't big on cologne so I haven't investigated men's fragrances so much.  

Penguin has a GWP for a messenger bag: Receive a smart signature messenger bag with your 3.4 oz. Original Penguin cologne purchase.  I do like the Penguin line. 

Gucci, Hanna Mori and Hugo Boss, John Varvatos and Hugo Boss are among other GWPs for men.

Make Up Review - Lipstick !

What do most people do when they can't sleep at night?  If you're like me, you play with make up!  I decided to do a mini review/comparison of lipsticks in some relatively neutral/mauve/taupe shades.

BTW: I have dark brown hair, brown eyes and fairly fair cool/neutral complexion.  All pics were taken using Body Shop's clear lip liner fixer.

Nars Pigalle on my not-so-lucious lips

This is a relatively creamy, non-drying formula.  It does tend to transfer but from 1-10 on lasting normal wear, I'd give it a 7.

One coat gives good coverage but for slightly more coverage and longer staying power- I use a light dusting of translucent powder after blotting the first application and then put a 'top coat'.  Def. one of my new favorites in the neutrals category.  I'm not too big on glittery or sparkly lipcolor as it tends to wear off quickly for me.  

I'm relying alot on my neutrals these days since pink and fuschia are all the rage.  I can pull off the right tone of fuschia or red but pink is usually not a good color on me at all.

My lip are lopsided because I was taking the picture. :)

I'd love to wear bright colors but with the relative fairness of my complexion and my eyes being my better feature, I like to emphasize my eyes over my lips.

"Pigalle" is listed as 'semi-matte' and it is creamy but it is not as sheer as other lipsticks in the same Nars line.

I think this could be used by both warm and cool toned complexions as it is relatively subtle and neutral.

Surprise!

Next up is Clinique "Surprise" from their 'Different Lipstick' line.  

You can def. see the bronze sheen I'm talking about in the tube.

The official description: Pearlized golden brown with surprise hint of purple on skin  Finish: Soft Shine Colour Group:Violets

I was surprised at the pink tones andit has an almost metallic sheen to it.  Not one of my faves since I'm not big on shiny, pearlied, glittery etc. liptick(au contraire elsewhere- wait til I get around to eyeshadows! *lol*). 

It looked very 'bronze-ey' in the tube and definitely retained the shine but was not as brow/red as I expected.

Staying power was not great- this is a toucher-upper.  I'd give it a 4 maybe.  Definitely not as subtle as some of the other colors and this may be better on someone with a warmer complexion. $15 at Clinique.com or other retailers(Nordstrom, Sephora, etc.)

M.A.C. Pro Longwear Lipcreme

Please forgive my un-made-up face and bed head. :)

I give this a 9/10 right off.  Feels a little dry but doesn't dry out my lips and it LASTS- energizer bunny of lipsticks.  This color I purchased at a San Francisco Sephora but it looks like it is ou of stock online.  Bummer!  Great color for me, though, and nice wearability.

The Pro Longwear line by M.A.C. is described as: Lightweight texture, creamy finish and comfortable longwear combine in this has-it-all pro-class lip colour. Slick in use, applies without need of a top coat- and still lasts up to 12 hours. Won't feather or transfer, and the colour stays true. Helps lips stay soft and hydrated.

Really?  A product that does what it says it will?  I'm game!!

This is just one layer.  If you want a darker red, apply, let dry, reapply.  This is a great lipstick for cool toned complexions- it may look more pink or orange-y on warm complexions.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Matte Lip Color in Tawny pink

8/10- Good staying power for being creamy, felt great to wear and website color was pretty darn accurate.

It is a nice, neutral pink- not a total omg-attention-grabber but definitely noticeable!

This may not be a whiz-bang of a deal but I love Elizabeth Arden's lipstick(winterberry- something like that) *eye roll*.  They have a current promo at Macy's:

This next one is not the greatest GWP except that I got m first bottle of Michael Korrs this wek and the scent is heavenly *harp strums*.  If I was going to be restocking my perfume cache and Michael Kors was needed, I'd be all over this deal(also at Macy's).  Got to Fragrantica and check out the fragrance profile.  It has violet and peony which are two of my favorite notes along with white florals such as labdanum and tuberose.  Base notes are cashmerewood, vetiver, etc.  It has a decent base that keeps all those florals from just wandering away. I love it from the moment I spray it on until the last of the dry-down.  Sillage is relatively intimate.  Even though it is a light floral, it is sophisticated enough to be more of and evening fragrance but that is just imho.

Another favorite GWP for me was the D&G train case.  It's beautiful!  Deep maroon velvet and a small tray that sits inside.  Macys and Dolce & Gabbana are still runnng this promo:

Pour Femme is one of my favorites by Dolce&Gabbana- though I will admit I am addicted to a number of their fragrances.  They do well with my chemistry.  Heh. We have chemistry. :)  Again, check out the profile at Fragrantica to see if this is a scent you'd like or would want to buy.  It's a win-win- you get the classy, velvety train case and a lovelt perfume that is sweet and fruity opening to a heart of white florals and settling in with a comfortable (slightly-but-not-too-much) powdery finish combined with lovely vanilla.

Finally, Looks like Nordstrom will be putting up a GWP on 5/22/13 for clinique called their Seasonal Gift.  Details will be coming later I'm sure. The pic is all I have so far!

 

There have been some great gifts with purchase lately!  I found a new favorite lipstick shade and am tryinf out some of Lancome's Brightening Effect.  Its reat when you fwr a GWP and it has goodies you might actually use!
